Music at Hightown
Music is a real strength at Hightown. We have very strong Key Stage 1 and Key Stage 2 choirs and we are incredibly proud of their achievements. As well as regularly taking part in assemblies and a range of whole school events, their talent has shone more widely during community events; these include annual performances for the local community at St. Christopher's Church Summer Fete and the local community Christmas Carol Service, participating in the Southampton Music Association's Christmas Concert at the Southampton Guildhall, where our children join others from schools across Southampton to sing to a wide audience, and they also take part in the Young Voices Concert at the O2 Arena in London, singing amongst a choir of thousands of children from schools across the United Kingdom. In March 2020, the choir also took part in the Mayflower 400 Concert at the Mayflower Theatre in Southampton.
In addition, peripatetic music teachers from Southampton Schools Music Association teach children in Year 4 to play the ukulele and trumpet and our Years 5 and 6 children learn to play the trumpet, horn and guitar. These children, as instrumentalists, take part in whole school music events which include; a Spring Concert and an annual Summer Music Festival; yet more enjoyable and memorable annual Hightown events, to which all our parents and carers are invited.
